(A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation... Empty
PostSubject: (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation...   (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation... EmptyMon May 31, 2010 2:26 pm

The crash and clatter of hobnail boots reverberated off the thick stone walls as two squat guards clambered down the stairs to the catacombs of cells that lay among the foundations of an expansive manse nestled within Obsequium. One winced slightly as he glanced into one of the chambers and caught the glittering, feverish eye of a prisoner. The prisoner seemed almost a skeleton, its breath rattling between its gnashing teeth, and its limp arms thin as twigs. Its eyes rolled pleadingly at the two guards as they tromped past, begging release. In other cells, there were similar scenes, though some retained enough strength to howl or spit at the pair as they continued on.

The younger of the two simply shifted his eyes elsewhere, staring blankly ahead as he tried to ignore the whimpers and moans creeping between the iron bars. He bit his lip apprehensively as he followed behind the older guard, who was chattering cheerily away about the prisoners' crimes a if he were out on a Sunday stroll. I'm beginning to wonder why I took this job, the poor boy shuddered, catching sight of an emaciated hand reaching beseechingly from between the bars.

"Whoa, buddy, hang on there!" the old guard smiled, stopping in his tracks and clapping a firm, heavy hand on the boy's shoulder. "Don't want to go falling in there."

The boy blinked, surprised. Before him was a collection of six holes, deep, dark, and dank carved from the black stone that made the floor. The torches on the wall flickered slightly as he stepped carefully back from the brink of the hole he had been about to tumble into. "The Pits aren't known for their forgiveness," the old jailer chuckled, patting his shoulder heavily, "Just watch your step, eh?" The older man blinked, then trundled off, scratching his belly and calling over his shoulder flippantly, "There's only one in there right now, so you won't have too much to watch, but keep an eye on it. They only get put down there if they're dangerous."

The boy stared suspiciously at the holes, listening as the door grated closed far above. The prisoners' moans flickered and died, withering away as their hope of succor receded. With clinks and sighs, they went back to nursing their wounds while the new guard turned apprehensively to peer into the closest of the six pits. Nothing. The boy frowned and stood to go get a torch from its bracket. As he turned, a soft, hopeless sobbing made its way to the new guard's ears. He whipped around anxiously, nearly unbalancing. That sounds like a child! His heart played a tarantella in his chest. "Hello? Where are you, kid?"

The hiccups continued, unbroken until the guard had discovered its source. He peered down into the pit, worried. Almost invisible in the flickers of the light was a small, crumpled figure, shuddering against the wall uncontrollably. From what the boy could see, the child-shaped figure was curled up into a fetal position, its arms bound in the familiar hug-me position indicative of straitjackets and feet bound together by some means he couldn't see. Its head was even hooded and its face was masked, save for the two slits that had been cut in the rough cloth for eyes. "Hello? Hello?" He almost reached out to the child, but stopped short, remembering the older guard's warning. "Are you alright?"

The little demon continued making a sobbing noise, her eyes dry as she gritted her teeth. D---, they would make it more difficult, wouldn't they? The amount of legwork she had to go through to actually get this particular mission done was only vaguely frustrating, but the layover time was too much. Spica was beginning to get bored before the softhearted guard had come into the picture. She had almost laughed aloud when the guard had come into view. This job was going to be easier than she'd thought!

With her arms bound in front of her by what felt suspiciously like a straightjacket and legs bound together and to the floor by chains, Spica couldn't move enough to manipulate the other guards' emotions. She had already decided to forego Jumping because doing so would transport both her and everything currently bound to her to another area. It wouldn't do to be lying like a sack of old potatoes in the squalid streets of Obsequium, and, besides, the pretty penny she had set out to pinch still hadn't been pocketed.

As soon as the old guard had escaped upstairs, Spica had begun whimpering, twitching her fingers slightly to bend the guard's natural inclinations in her favor. He was already jumpy and upset, so it was a cakewalk to tweak his concern to a peak, thankfully. If it had been much harder, chances were that Spica would have to wait for Plan B to go into action.

Now, she could see the guard peering down at her anxiously and demanding something of her. Even though he was only a few feet above her, Spica could not hear his words; a spell of some kind capped the hole. It was meant to keep anything from entering the pit, save for the condemned, and annihilate anything that otherwise tried to pass through it. It had taken her a good two hours of combing to find the hair-thin crack at the rim of the hole that would allow sound and her manipulations, if projected correctly. She sighed inwardly and simply continued her sustained sobbing, waiting for him to lift the spell. Weak-willed child, she snickered, her lips widening in a smirk.

It looks like a kid and sounds like a kid... he glanced around nervously and placed his hand on the barrier. It couldn't be the dangerous beast that they've trapped down here! I have to help it! With this final thought, his decision was made. He set his mouth in a thin, determined mind and set the key in his hand, smashing it down on the barrier, twisting his hand and breaking the invisible lock.

Spica's head whipped up at the crash and tinkle of the shattering barrier as it broke away and trickled upstairs to alert the other guards. Her sobs came to a shuddering stop as she gazed up at the boy, her sky blue eyes glittering with what he thought were tears. "I... I got trapped down here, mister," she whimpered miserably, wriggling slightly, "They must've thought I was someone else. Can you help me?"

Within her sleeves, the little demon twitched her fingers again as the man felt a tug on his heartstrings. He had to save the poor, helpless child. "Of course," he cooed, reckless of the consequences, "But we have to hurry or someone will find out."

"I can't move," she sighed helplessly, moving what little she could in order to demonstrate. The guard, with a grunt, obediently jumped down into the pit and called on his magical ability to break Spica's bonds. With a blinding white flash, she was free of the chains that bound her legs to the ground and her arms to her side. Beneath the rough, brown cloth that hid her face, Spica grinned. With the slow, fluid grace of a blooming flower, Spica's limbs unfurled until she stood. She cackled as the seams on her straitjacket screamed and burst.

"Oh thank you, sir," she trilled at the frozen guard. "Thank you so much!" Her azure eyes glittered maliciously and she lunged at him, unimposing though she was at less than chest height. Her pudgy child's fingers flashed for a moment from her ruined sleeves suddenly sporting two small, bone-white knives and drawing deep, red lines in the boy's midsection. "Too bad," she sighed as his eyes rolled up into his head and he fell, screaming on the ground, "In another world, you might have been truly thanked."

There was a clatter on the stairs as the guards, finally alerted, came rolling down the stairs. Spica grinned, her curved canines glittering in the torchlight. "And here comes the party," she chuckled, hopping out of the hole carelessly. The guards froze before her, appalled. The first, shocked, stood stock-still for a moment, taking in the scene - one of their fellows gurgling in the pit below a blonde child as she stood arms akimbo, her mouth widened in a grimace of pleasure as she paused for a heartbeat, resplendent in blood.

She cocked her head sideways at them in a way, if seen coming from any other child, that might have been considered adorable. "Why, hello, there," she chirruped, grinning maniacally, "Would you like to play, too?"

There were only three, but their confusion and fear was delicious. Spica licked her lips and advanced slowly, dropping to a near-crouch. The little demon promptly Jumped past them and into the hallway beyond. Too much trouble to bother with, now, she sighed, pattering up the stairs.

PostSubject: Re: (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation...   (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation... EmptyMon May 31, 2010 4:48 pm

(A few hours earlier)

"There is no way I will do that" Heru said maliciously. His voice as cold as ever, it was obvious that the people in the room were either scared or simply disturbed by having him in such close vicinity. He couldn't blame them; his appearance did disturb quite a lot of people. But it was unavoidable now that he had gotten promoted, or rather his rank had been increased and now he was a 'fiend' Heru cared little for ranks and nice titles, he knew more from combat experience than most of the new demons knew from their so called schools and magical infiltrations and such, not the only good way was the old way.

"Well you gotta do it Koori, either you do it, or you know the rules, no money nor jobs for the next year. You maybe a fiend now, but the mercenary rules still apply to you" Sam said he knew this annoyed Heru to no end. Not a lot of people could be near Heru without getting themselves killed quickly. Sam was only capable of doing it because he was a half-breed between a demon and a human, making him able to read peoples moods. It came in quite handy when you worked with people like Heru, which had no face to show emotions on.

“How much?” Heru asked hoping that at least the sum of gold would amount high enough for him to find a bit of pleasure in this job. He really did dislike the rule of mercenary saving. It really was one of those rules that had no use but to cause strife between the contractors and the mercenaries, but there was nothing he could do this time, he would have to wait until he had gained enough power to delete that very rule from the world.

“Five thousand Gold pieces” Sam said, okay this would not be seating well with the demon at all. Sure gold was the universal currency so gold were worth the same amount everywhere, besides Areneif those hippies. But the prize was ridiculously low even by most standards that did not deal with numbers of this size. Heru’s hand curled into what was to be a fist had his body not only been composed of bones magically held together by God only knows what sort of spell or energy.

“This will be the last time I do such a job, understood?” Heru said his voice leaving no question that this would be a statement to be upheld with his life if necessary. Heru nodded a bit to himself, and then he stood up from his seat on the other side of the table and left without another word.

(Present)

Heru was walking casually towards the prison facility. He knew what dangers hid within there, but he also knew that his target was being held in there. Walking into what was probably made to look like some sort of entrance area with a guard; he made his way over to a desk. “Where is the prisoner going by the name of Spica being held?” Heru asked as he moved his right hand in front of him to the right, just like a Jedi would do. The guard seemed like he was confused at once, then his eyes went blank and her answered with a detailed description of the pathway going to Spica’s jail-hole.

Heru did not respond to the now really confused guard, instead he just placed his hand on the guards head, and suddenly the guards body began to freeze into what was ice. It was a quick death, even though it might look like it took a lot of time. It really only took about ten seconds before Heru was on his way towards the hole where they would have kept Spica unless of course someone was stupid enough to let her out.

Heru reached the hole, and it seemed that what he had hoped was not true, had been true. Stupid half-breeds, Heru really didn’t know if this was a half or a pure-bred but he certainly knew that whatever it was, it was very much dead. He walked a bit longer reaching what seemed like a confused group of idiots. Heru sighed as he placed a bony hand on his face. “I really don’t get paid enough for this” Heru mumbled as he walked past the group of confused guards

The guards did not keep their confusion up when he had gotten past them. It seemed they actually just needed a demon to accuse for whatever had happened, and since the other one just jumped out of their reach, quite literally they decided to go for Heru instead. “You people really wanna do this the hard way don’t you?” Heru said as a small smile (if you could call it that) formed upon his skeleton white smile, beneath his snow white coat. But before they even got close enough for their weapons to reach him, they were already feeling the effects of hypothermia upon their body, as well as the fact their blood was freezing within their veins. Heru shrugged and walked again following the trail of the demon Spica.

Heru reached what seemed to be the stairs going up – or down – to some hidden chamber. He sighed yet again, and began to ascend the stairs. As he walked further up the sound of steps became more evident. He looked up but could not see anything, it seemed the place had a natural shadow covering the upwards section (and possibly downwards) making seeing what is ahead really impossible. “Spica let’s stop playing these Awful games! I have come to retrieve you, so get your ass moving” Heru said with an obvious tone of annoyance in his voice. It seemed no matter what he was going to do; he would have to catch up to Spica before she got too far away and decided to jump out of this place. “You might not think about it, but some people do actually want to see you still living, even though I do not understand why” Heru yelled as he kept walking in a steady phase upwards.

PostSubject: Re: (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation...   (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation... EmptyTue Jun 01, 2010 12:40 am

(Jumping back a bit...)

The little demon trotted up the stairs, still sniggering at the guards' fresh wave of confusion and fear. To tell the truth, she mused, these stairs are a bit odd, going both up and down at the same time. I suppose it's some sort of illusion. Shrugging mentally, the little demon concentrated on the task at hand. Missing the correct turnoff would send anyone traveling the stairs in a circle until the correct corridor was chosen.

"... And six steps up!" she whispered in a singsong voice. Turning right, a tunnel shimmered in the wall and appeared, yawning darkly in front of her. She turned to step through when a chill warned her of a change in the guards' position below. Its icy fingers ran down the length of her spine as she turned for a second back the way she had come. Heru, Spica curled her lip, Really. Did they think I was already finished? That I couldn't get my job done? Pah. Swine. Their messenger dog will have to come fetch me before I'll bother to think of bringing them their little trinket.

Incensed by her employer's apparent lack of confidence in her ability, the little demon smirked and backed into the hallway. "Let's play some hide-and-seek, you and I," she grinned, turning to walk jauntily down the hallway. "Then, perhaps, they'll learn their arrogance."

The little demon nearly started whistling when she felt Heru approach the stairs. And so begins the merry-go-round! Picking up her pace, Spica pranced, fleet-footed down the hallway until she reached a heavyset, bloodred door. Set in the stone archway of the tunnel, the door was a head and a half taller than Spica herself. It glowered down at her, its oddly hued wood barely visible in the low security lighting of the corridor. It looked like the soft grain of a hardwood, but it throbbed uncomfortably beneath her hand, steadily, slowly, as evenly as the incessant tick-tock of a clock.

She traced the archway, ignoring the echo of Heru's words as he shouted them from the stairwell. Reaching the jamb at the right-hand corner, the little demon counted up three stones along the arch and three stones over. Without sufficent light to see, she groped along the edge of the selected block until her hand encountered a rough spot, unnoticeable to the naked eye.

Giggling a little, she slid her fingers into the slot behind the rough patch. It was only a thin plate of stone on this side, while the other was a slick, clear coat of glass. Spica guessed that the door she was facing had a number of random memorabilia scattered on display throughout the wall, invisible from the side she was on, but in plain view to anyone lounging on the other. She felt a small prick tickle the back of her hand as she reached toward her prize, but she shrugged it off. By now, Spica had immunized herself from most poisons, and this, if she had gathered reliable information, was one of the many that would simply make her momentarily woozy or numb.

As a matter of fact, when she gripped her prize, hidden though it was behind the thin stone plate, her hand began to tingle with pins and needles; she could barely feel her hand close on it. Quickly, before the sensation could scuttle up her arm, she pulled her hand, along with the object, from the slit in the wall. She was awarded another prick, but the entire ensemble came free, mostly unharmed and whole.

Peering at the ribbon as it fluttered in the low light, Spica wondered at it. Such a small thing for such a high price... she frowned, both at the tingling that had begun to crawl up her arm and the ribbon's implications. It seemed like such an unassuming thing, a thin length of creamy white silk with a couple patterns of what looked to be flowers in it. The little demon shrugged and stuffed it unceremoniously into a pocket under the ruined straitjacket. If he wants to pay big bucks for a trinket, that's his problem.

Spica set her back against the cool stone wall, settling comfortably against it as she waited for the poison from the hidden needle to run its course. The owner of the mansion was supposed to be out today, and, as the red door was the escape route from his private quarters, Spica sincerely doubted that the ribbon's disappearance would be noted any time soon. Her thoughts flicked briefly to the Fiend following her and Spica mentally shrugged. The mission was over now, so if she was caught loitering around here, it wouldn't make any real difference to her pay. She chewed impatiently on her tongue for a moment. I really do hope I get to play some more, first, though, she sighed sorrowfully, They really shouldn't distrust me so.

She felt her anger flare again at her current employers, dulled though it had been at the elation of finding her prize and the numbing effects of the poison. The little demon turned and watched down the corridor for the smalltest movement. If the slightest movement stirred the still air, Spica would be gone in a flash, Jumping away to continue the hide-and-seek elsewhere.

PostSubject: Re: (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation...   (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation... EmptyTue Jun 01, 2010 7:10 am

Even though Heru might want to be a god like being that was immune to the effects of magic, that wasn’t the case, with every bit of magic he used he felt energy leaving his body. He was lucky that the very thing keeping him together was a pretty big magical energy source, also called an angelic heart or the grace as some refers to it. He had been lucky enough to be able to keep one part of his body, and even though it was just as angelic as his demonic body, it still produced good amounts of magical energy.

Heru could hear the quickening of feet against the stone floor below him. It seemed Spica was actually going to play around with him, he grumbled angrily as he would have to keep on with this little game. He really disliked that sort of demons never took anything serious. That’s obviously why they weren’t even considered to be true demons since they had no rank within the midst of Obsequium.

“Spica if you keep this up, I will personally make sure your lazy bum is gonna be frozen to the jaw of a Hellhound for at least two-thousand years.” Heru threatened as he kept on walking though his speed increased by every step he took he was getting very tired of hunting this damned kid. Threatening her wouldn’t make him gain anything, but he was certainly going to feel better by doing it, and knowing that it wasn’t just an empty threat made it all that much better.

While Spica had been busy taking her prize from its location – and in the meantime getting drugged like another hippie – Heru had gained some length on her. He got closer and closer and was actually quite capable of seeing the silhouette of a small child in front of him. His snow white robes dragged along the floor as he neared his target. “Spica it’s time for you to come with me… no more bullshit, you know you can’t run from me” Heru said as the figure in front of him got clearer and clearer.

“Now if you are done messing this place up, I gotta take you now.” Heru informed as he was finally so close that only a few steps would place him close enough to actually grab the little demon and pull her along with him. He couldn’t see the trinket or whatever it was she had been send out to find here in this damned prison building.

Heru would not give her time to jump away from this area; he did not have the motivation to actually have to use his portals today, so before even saying anything he went over and grabbed her, though if she wanted to she could probably have jumped him with her. “It’s time to leave, you little bugger.” Heru said annoyed as his cold black eye sockets looked at her, giving her one of those looks which would probably have scared even the grown up men from sense and sanity.

PostSubject: Re: (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation...   (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation... EmptyTue Jun 01, 2010 11:29 am

Spica's eyelids grew as heavy as lead as she'd waited, ticking off seconds as the hot, metallic flavor of the poison leached into her mouth and began to slowly recede. As it pulled away, beaten back by Spica's immune system, her eyelids drooped. The hallway warped and danced in front of her wildly as she tried vaguely to focus on the entrance. Urgh. I hate this part... She leaned over to one side and puked. The offensive, pungent stench almost made her throw up again, but she simply scooted a little further away and gagged.

Even as she felt Heru's glacial presence enter the corridor, Spica let her leaden eyes drift closed. Won't he be p---ed to think I was sleeping? she smirked to herself, curling her arms around her knees. She would normally have Jumped, but at this point, it was too dangerous to take a dip into that particular version of reality; she was too fuzzy to be able to navigate correctly. The little demon rested her head on her arms and just concentrated on breathing.

Heru growled something supposedly imposing at her as he approached, but Spica could barely decipher the sounds. Probably just some sort of threat, anyway, she decided, concentrating on the poison's fire burning back down her arm and into her fingertips.

His skeletal hand clapped down on her shoulder authoritatively just in time for the last drop to disappear. He said something and Spica looked up as blearily as she could. "Oh, hello, Mother," she grinned, "Come to take me back home, then?"

She met his eyes - or, rather, his sockets - and almost sniggered at his furious expression. The little demon had really gotten under his skin, so to speak, this time. Oh, what fun.

PostSubject: Re: (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation...   (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation... EmptyMon Jun 14, 2010 5:15 am

Heru got within range of Spica, she seemed to be sleeping for a bit, but he knew better than to think such thoughts about Spica. She never slept especially not on the job; he had to give it to her. She was good for a kid. Heru only slept when he had used way too much magic on a day.

"Oh, hello, Mother, Come to take me back home, then?"

Heru shock his head in annoyance, no matter how many times him and Spica met she always seemed to be way too unserious for this kind of profession it annoyed him to no end. “First thing, I am not your mother, even though you might wish I was” Heru began growing slightly obviously aware of his own anger, but simply indifferent to it. Heru had learned by now that if he were to actually kick her ass he would have to time it right rather than allowing the temper to get the better of him. “And second thing, yes you are going home right now… Your employer is a bit impatient, you see” Heru informed his voice leaving no doubt that he was of the same mind set. He didn’t want to spend more time here, even if it meant having to drag this little girl by her demonic hair, or worse. But Heru was a pacifist, okay maybe not that much he just avoided using violence unnecessarily; after all it gave too much information away. Heru had learned by experience that leftover magical energies could tell a lot about the user, heck more than a lot, if you weren’t careful nearly all sorts of different things could be learned from it, if you knew how to.

"Oh dear, have I made you angry?"

“Not yet, but you will, if you don’t get that tiny little ass of yours moving” Heru said calmly and clearly. It was an obvious order that was not to be fooled around with. Heru was in no mood for her games, but he knew Spica probably was in the mood for games, she always seemed that way. He took a tighter grip in whatever material she was wearing to cover her shoulders and pulled her. He was going to just leave right now with her without her consent he couldn’t care less. “Now, we are in a bit of a hurry, so as I said. Get your ass moving, or I certainly will make it move” Heru glared at her before pulling again, this time with more force.

(Not a problem; I know you're busy. Very Happy)

Spica giggled a little, trying to imagine Heru as her mother was like trying to force a plastic bag into a running air conditioning vent. For one thing, she doubted that his bony body could support the broods that her mother spewed out almost constantly; her batch alone had over five hundred members before disease, deformity, or siblings weeded some out. Had she been as lackadaisical with her mother as she was with Heru, Spica would have been devoured, screaming by her own parent, digested and recycled in order to make way for a new child. She wasn't aware of the loving, tender hold of a mother, so Heru's intention in invoking her sole parental figure was all but lost on her.

Quite frankly, even though she sensed the Fallen pretty much decidedly hated her, Spica sort of liked Heru - he was fun to stir up once you got to know his moods. He was delightful to poke at and prod; he considered himself so very hard to read and tried to keep himself under such tight control that every breakthrough was an ecstasy. The little demon could see the aura of his emotions now, swirling irritably around him, directed both at her and their employers.

"Oh dear, have I made you angry?" she pouted innocently, patting his icy hand.

He didn't seem to want to play, but, then again, he never did. Spica just smiled dumbly up at him as he delivered the same threats he always did - no matter how differently worded, they were still meant for the same thing. "Yeah, yeah, yeah," she sighed dejectedly, shaking Heru's hand off with a flick of her shoulder, "Are you really so eager to get back to the invisible cage, pup?"

Rocking to her feet, the little demon swayed for a moment, feeling the final effects of the poison seep away. She turned and stared meaningfully at Heru, gesturing for him to take the lead, but petulantly offering no words.

PostSubject: Re: (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation...   (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation... EmptyWed Jul 07, 2010 7:42 am

"Oh dear, have I made you angry?" Spica seemed to be in an awfully playful mood, which simply helped agitate Heru more and more. He wasn’t in the mood for kid’s games, and considering that Spica had the mentality of three years old, meant that Spica wasn’t a good thing for Heru. As Spica patted his icy skeleton hand, he quick retracted it, avoiding a third touch. He really did dislike when she touched him like if they were equal beings. In Heru’s eyes he was more than her. She was after all unranked; neither Lucifer, nor any of the false Gods had ever considered her enough to actually be ranked, at least as far as he knew.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, Are you really so eager to get back to the invisible cage, pup?" She seemed to want a fight. Heru was so close to actually simply giving in and hitting the poor girly demon. But he restrained himself knowing that it could end very badly, very badly even for demons.

“No, but someone here is actually doing things solely for the money” Heru said stating that he didn’t want to do this, had it not been for the money which he was being paid. Even though most demons could live quite well without money or anything Heru had found a love in it, it gave him a sense of fulfillment, especially since the very sin that was making up most of his damnation was greed, of course mixed with a few other things.

Spica gestured for him to lead the way and so he did. Though he wasn’t going to be walking, they would take a portal. Heru liked traveling with portals it was quick but it did cost him an awful lot of energy unfortunately, but it was a payment he was willing to give. He began chanting a few slight words in a demonic language known to very few none demonic beings. A spiraling spiral of dark energies were created in front of Heru and Spica, it would move them from where they were to where they needed to be right there and then as soon as they stepped into it.

“Ladies first” Heru said mockingly. He usually was a gentleman compared to most demons but this time he wasn’t being very polite, he simply wanted to make sure Spica was following him, hopefully quickly before the energy drain of the portal made his heart go temporarily down.

(A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation... Empty
PostSubject: Re: (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation...   (A Dark, Dank Someplace) A Sticky Situation... EmptyThu Jul 15, 2010 10:42 am

It was easy to feel the waves of disgust and anger rolling off Heru like ripples in a pond, but Spica just smiled wanly. He's so much fun to play with, Spica sighed inwardly, but he's so very stern. If he wasn't such a b-----d, I'd probably... well... I'd bother him just as much, she admitted nonchalantly to herself, nodding contentedly.

The taller demon mentioned that his mercenary work was simply for money, and Spica rolled her eyes, scoffing. There was always an ulterior motive, whatever the task. Besides, to just want money when going out on a mission was indicative of having a severe lack of ambition. Money was simply an avenue to power, hence why its clear, golden song whispered in her ear nearly constantly. She actually had a hoard that could rival some of the most powerful beings in the city, but Spica simply kept it hidden, choosing to simply know her own power rather than flaunt it. One day, one day she constantly yearned for, Spica would step forward as one of Satan's most trusted underlings, but it would most likely be a long, hard road to that coveted place. The little demon could feel the eyes of His agents watching her every move, gauging, weighing, criticizing; she had, at least, caught His attention after clawing her way up over hundreds of years from the slime pit she had been birthed in.

Though the little demon had a number of illustrious titles - given the right circles - and infamous uprisings under her belt, she had always used an assumed name and had been very careful to cover her tracks. Though Satan knew all that happened in his realm, and had even borrowed her body as an avatar for specific jobs, He had not bothered to bother with such an irresponsible prat as Spica seemed to be. Apparently, though, the game had changed, and Spica was under nearly constant surveillance. It made her jumpy, nervous, and uncomfortable, but the feeling of power it gave her was absolutely exhilarating.

Heru started chanting at her side and the little demon felt his power pulse and be sucked away into a dark hole connecting the place they stood to where they were headed. There was a whorl of darkness hanging in the air in front of them, but through it, Spica could see the tessering of space-time. She wrinkled her nose. How crude, she shook her shaggy, golden mane disgustedly, There are so many better ways to do this.

"Ladies first," hissed Heru ironically. Spica stuck her tongue out at him as if she was indeed the child that she had assumed the form of.

"I can get there myself you know," she demanded, waving around the threadbare ends of what had been a straitjacket petulantly. "I suppose you don't care, though."

Spica stared at him a moment, waiting to watch the portal beginning to take its toll before stepping through. Spica knew he was getting weary by holding open the portal, and she had seen enough of his portalling to know the consequences, but, unlike many of their fellow mercenaries might think, she didn't want Heru dead, just annoyed.

She stepped into the tear, feeling the stomach-churning clench of displacement and the stretch as a flicker of her true form rotated into view, responding to the reflection of its element. It was only a brief flash before Spica swallowed it back, compacting it into her tiny child's body.

There was no sensation in this void, just darkness so light that one was blinded without the knowledge or eyes to pierce it. Heru, she figured, would probably have his skeletal eyes covered, if not closed when he stepped through, choosing to rely on his instincts and knowledge of the portals to navigate. Of course, you could never tell with Heru. She looked over her shoulder to see if he was following and smiled.

"I can get there myself you know, I suppose you don't care, though." Heru listened with half a deaf ear. Her complaints were nothing but mere Childs words to him. It was obvious though, that he found her words annoying. He had worked with Spica for a while now but she never stopped annoying him, for some reason. One might even think she had grown a childish affection for him, but Heru had done everything in his might to avoid that.

Portal he had opened was clearly taking a toll on his body. For the first time in some years his heart was actually beating. One might say that this was to be expected, but since his heart was of angelic nature, even though he was a demon it would be a long shot to think it would be beating this fast. It didn’t even pump blood for god’s sake. He shot it down as simple old age, he was getting old and an angelic heart wouldn’t last forever in a demon body, which in other words meant he would probably have to get a new one soon. That could prove to be a big pain in the ass, but he hoped not.

After Spica had done as she had been told, Heru followed her. The Darkness as some might have seen it, and light to others didn’t matter to him. He was blind after all, there were no earthly eyes in his eye-sockets and as such he wasn’t affected. Though the magic his heart gave him allowed him to view the world through the use of magic, it wasn’t something you mastered easily, and often details was sparse even for adepts but Heru had gained an almost perfect eye-sight through the spell. He saw the flicker of Spica’s true form. Though it did not matter to Heru, she would always be the annoying little kid.

They both began to reach their destination. With a dragon like roar the portal opened on the other end and spat both Heru and Spica out. It was quite a landing they got. Heru was thrown into the wall in the other end of the room, and Spica, well he did not want to think about her too much, and she would probably survive anyways.

“Ahh, who do we have here, if it isn’t the great mercenary Heru, and his Companion.” A familiar voice said, it wasn’t Sam or the client whom had actually hired them both. He did feel Sam’s presence in the room as well as the Client, but they had not been the ones to so cockily open their mouth and comment on their entrance.

“Alistair, you cocky bastard, what are you doing here?” Heru growled as he got up from his wall supported sitting position. He really disliked that demon, amongst others. Heck he was more annoying than Spica. Heru's voice showed signs of the fatigue which was befalling upon him, and being in Alistair's presence wasn't helping that at all.

“Not a whole lot, I was here simply to make sure your sorry ass and the little slave girl you got there, came home safely.” Alistair’s voice was filled with insanity, his presences wasn’t the least bit pleasant, even though his body looked just like any other human. He was tall and slim might even look a bit starved. His black hair was longer than most and it seemed to move around on its own, a possibly way to recognize his storm demon heritage.

Spica sneered at the frayed, waving ends of the tesser tear as it roared towards them. It wouldn't patch well, and the landing would be more than a little rough the little demon decided, checking it with an expert eye and dismissing it as rubbish. Eh, what can you do? she sighed tragically, curling herself up and relaxing in order to cushion the entrance.

Her nerves jumped at her, announcing her return to reality and the sudden presence of both a wall at her back and a floor bending her neck and head. She groaned and blinked, unfurling enough to flick her eyes around the room. Wincing in mock sympathy, she watched Heru shift his old, jarred bones to a more comfortable position while she confirmed with her eyes and ears the company she already suspected was here.

Flopping over to one side unceremoniously, she curled her legs into an Indian-style sitting position and took stock of Alistair as he jittered about, making snide remarks at Heru. Such an interesting character, she smirked, drinking in the imbalance in his aura and chuckling at his antics, If nothing else, he and Heru are sure to make this an interesting time...

The little demon chose to not take offense at the storm demon's attempts to get a rise and simply smiled lazily, cradling her head on her palms and her elbows on her knees. She cleared her throat roughly and waited for someone to notice, but the little demon couldn't really care less at the moment. Any sort of action was more fun than the mundane paperwork and bartering routine that inevitably folloed every job.

Besides, she decided, My hand still hurts and now I have a crick in my neck. Heru deserves it.

She fixed her honey-gold eyes on Alistair and waited, watching with the patience of a cat.
